Celebrating Nigerian Workers In Diaspora

Today is Workers' Day in Nigeria, a day to celebrate the contributions of workers to the growth and development of Nigeria. As we celebrate this day, we want to highlight the significant contributions that Nigerians in the diaspora are making to their adopted countries.

Nigerians in the diaspora are known for their strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and exceptional skills in various fields. In the United States alone, there are over 376,000 Nigerian immigrants, making them one of the most educated and prosperous immigrant groups in the country.

According to a report by the Migration Policy Institute, Nigerian immigrants in the United States are more likely to be college-educated than the overall U.S. population, with over 50% of them holding a bachelor's degree or higher. Nigerian immigrants in the U.S. are also more likely to be employed in high-skilled occupations, such as healthcare, technology, and finance.

In the United Kingdom, Nigerian employees are also contributing significantly to the country's economy. According to a study by the Institute for Public Policy Research, Nigerian-born workers in the UK earn an average of £29,000 per year, compared to the national average of £22,000.

Nigerian workers are also making their mark in other countries around the world. In Canada, for instance, Nigerians are among the top ten immigrant groups with the highest earnings, according to data from Statistics Canada. Nigerian workers in Canada earn an average of $67,000 per year, which is higher than the national average of $46,000.

In Australia, Nigerian workers are also thriving in various industries, including healthcare, education, and technology. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the number of Nigerian-born employees in Australia increased by 20% between 2016 and 2020, reflecting the growing presence of Nigerian workers in the country.

As we celebrate Workers' Day in Nigeria, let us also celebrate the hard work and contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora. Their work ethic, skills, and entrepreneurial spirit continue to make a positive impact in their adopted countries and contribute to the global economy.
